Walking around in the court yard

I decided to talk a walk in the court yard before classes. I sat under a tree and started humming to one of the songs that me and the girls like to play.

"Boo," murmured Saku as he crept up behind the girl singing by the tree. "Make you jump?" he asked, smiling lopsidedly and shaking a few loose strands of hair from his pale face.

I jumped a little. "Oh, hi, I'm Athena Green. Your Saku right?" I said to him.

"That is correct," he murmured, stepping out from behind her and bowing slightly. "Saku Periculus, at your service." He grinned up at her from the bottom of his bow, winking.

I gave him a smile. I couldn't help but think he was cute, I quickly tried to change my train of thoughts. "So, why did you leave breakfast?"

He shrugged. "Not hungry. I don't eat much anyway," he said happily, placing his hand at about her head height on the tree and leaning against it, his head to one side as he looked at her. Athena? A-the-na. "I've heard people call you Thea...?" he said tentatively.

"My nickname. That and Thena." I said to him.

"Ah, I see," he nodded, biting his lip pensively, showing her a flash of his bright white fangs, just for a second. "I don't have any nicknames," he commented quickly after a slightly awkward pause.

I smiled. "Well your name is kinda short already." I said to him.

"Yes, I suppose you're right," he said simply, not quite knowing what to say next. This was possibly the most awkward conversation of the week, if not the month. Why was it so nervous between them?

"So...what are you thinking about?" I asked him trying to break the small silence that passed between us.

"Trees," he said quickly, suddenly looking at her, embarrassed that he'd been caught with his attention far, far away from the conversation. "They're pretty, aren't they? Very green, and very tall - I climb them often." He laughed nervously and rubbed the back of his neck. "What are you thinking about?"

I laughed. "Wondering why your acting so nervous."

"Who wouldn't be nervous in front of a pretty girl like yourself?" he blurted out, silently cursing himself for saying it so readily. He laughed anxiously again and flicked his hair once more.

I blushed. "I'm not that pretty." I said to him.

"Oh, you're not too bad," he joked, winking at her, a slight blush creeping over his incredibly pale cheeks.

I smiled with a little blush still visible. "Your not too bad yourself."

"That'd be my mother's fault," he said, the blush disappearing as instantly as it had arrived, and he looked to the side, showing her his sharp profile. "She's a veela - a famous model," he explained.

"Oh really? My mother is a teacher and my father is a Doctor." I said to him. "They are muggles."

He nodded, feigning interest, and using the time to let his eyes wander without her noticing. "Mmm, yes. My father isn't quite so admirable, though. He's a vampire. So am I, incidentally."

"Well that explains why you are always so pale."

"Quite." And why I am always sniffing when pretty young girls come near... he thought, just as he caught himself sniffing again. Why do all the girls I meet recently have such wonderful smelling blood...?

I looked up at the sky and watched the birds fly around. "It's nice out today."

"Mmm, yes..." he murmured, not looking at the sky but instead at Athena.

I looked over and saw he was looking at me. "What?" I asked with a smile.
